Case Study: Cardiac Diagnostic and Treatment Center
November 22nd, 2011Cardiac Diagnostic and Treatment Center was opened in 2001 under the direction of Dr. Robert J Accettola. The practice began searching for a new EHR solution when they realized that their current system was not going to meet the criteria for Meaningful Use set forth by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
“We had an EHR system for over 8 years and identified many areas that could stand to be improved. When that system became obsolete (and wouldn’t meet ONC-ATCB criteria for certification) I started looking at other systems. Benchmark Clinical was the one system that seemed to address a lot of the problems that we identified,” said Christy Crodick, RN, Office Manager at Cardiac Diagnostic and Treatment Center.
The practice implemented Benchmark Clinical and was up and running in two days. With the new EHR in place and being successfully used, Dr. Accettola was ready to demonstrate Meaningful Use through the Medicare Incentive Program. Just one report and one hour of Christy’s time was all that was necessary to complete the attestation survey and seven weeks later Dr. Accettola received his check.
In addition to receiving the federal stimulus funds, we asked Christy what some of the other added benefits have been since implementing Benchmark Clinical.
“The facesheet works the way a doctor’s brain works. It gives us a snapshot of patient data on one easy to read screen. We can change the layout and content to show information relevant to our specialty and our practice. It’s definitely one of the practice’s favorite features.”
“Our IT consultant noted that Benchmark has been the only truly web-based EHR that he’s encountered. Dr. Accettola now has instant access to patient information while he’s at the hospital or working from home. We are able to offer a better continuity of care that just can’t be done by using paper charts and outdated software.”
The practice is now making preparations to meet Meaningful Use objectives for the 2012 reporting year and has the upmost confidence for a successful attestation period.
“We’ve already heard about other vendors having issues when trying to report on Meaningful Use objectives this year. We have been very pleased with the system and customer service we have received and look forward to a long lasting partnership with Benchmark.”
